No datasheet names the driver IC or its maker: the sheets are Xinglight letterhead documents titled with the SKU only, so this protocol is defined by the figures the sheets print (supply, per-channel current, timing table, pin set), not by a known die.

Datasheets disagree: the XL-5050RGBC-2812B sheet (C2843785) is titled WS2812b throughout (cover, “WS2812b Functional characteristics”), but its timing table (p7: 0.295/0.595/0.595/0.295 us, cycle min 0.89 us, reset 80 us, 12 mA) is the symmetric SK6812-style set, not WS2812B’s. The prose note under the same table gives different windows: “high level between 200 ns and 410 ns is a 0 code, between 640 ns and 1000 ns a 1 code” (table: 0.20-0.35 and 0.55-1.2 us), and note b says the reset low time is “a minimum of 100 us” and gaps over 35 us may be taken as RESET (table: reset 80 us min). The same sheet says “port scan frequency 1.5 KHz” (p2) and FPWM 4 kHz (p5), and “VDD is 100 % functional above 4.5-5.5 V” (p2) against a 3.5-5.5 V supply limit (p4).

Datasheets disagree between siblings: the -S sheet (C22461793) rounds the table to 0.3/0.6 us with windows up to 0.4 us and ESD 2000 V; the -HM sheets print the base numbers with cycle min 0.9 us and ESD 3000 V. They are recorded as variants (same silicon is the simplest reading) but nothing in the sheets proves it.

Per-channel drive is 12 mA (feature list “preset 12 mA / channel”, electrical table Lol1 12 mA, absolute-max table also 12 mA). Colour order GRB, high bit first, 24 bits.

Refresh & flicker

FPWM 4 kHz and FOSC 800 kHz (min -, max 1100 kHz) in the electrical tables, against “port scan frequency 1.5 KHz” in the feature list of the same sheet. Static current 0.3 mA (3535UWC-class sheets) is not printed for the 5050 RGB sheets. Propagation delay 500 ns max.

Typical column of a min/typ/max table: Tin0h 0.20/0.295/0.35 us, Tin1h 0.55/0.595/1.2 us, T0L 0.55/0.595/1.2 us, T1L 0.2/0.295/0.35 us, cycle min 0.89 us, reset min 80 us. The bit period 890 ns is the printed minimum cycle, not a typical. The symmetric 0.3/0.6/0.6/0.3 pattern matches FastLED’s SK6812 T1/T2/T3 = 300/600/300 and differs from the WorldSemi WS2812B sheet (0.4/0.85/0.8/0.45). The -S sheet (C22461793) rounds to 0.20/0.3/0.4, 0.55/0.6/1.2, 0.55/0.6/1.2, 0.2/0.3/0.4 with cycle min 0.9 us.

Clones & compatibility

“Compatible” is never stated bare here — each relationship carries how strong the claim is, and what bites if you assume too much.

  • protocol compatible WS2812B

Only the sheet title ("XL-5050RGBC-WS2812B", section heading "WS2812b") claims it; no sheet says "compatible". Its table timing (T0H 0.295, T0L 0.595, T1H 0.595, T1L 0.295 us) differs from the WS2812B sheet, but its own prose note says the IC reads a high of 200-410 ns as 0 and 640-1000 ns as 1, which overlaps the WS2812B windows. Same 5050 pin order as the WS2812B (1 VDD, 2 DOUT, 3 GND, 4 DIN, cut corner at pin 3). source ↗

Library support

Not checked against any library. The sheets state a 24-bit (32-bit for IC-01W) frame sent high bit first at 800 kbps.

Evidence, not a release date. A library commit proves the part existed by that date and says nothing about how long before.
