No datasheet names the driver IC or its maker: the sheets are Xinglight letterhead documents titled with the SKU only, so this protocol is defined by the figures the sheets print (supply, per-channel current, timing table, pin set), not by a known die.

Same timing and PWM figures as the 5 mA set (xl-2812b-t2-5ma) but 12 mA per channel; that is the only reason the two are separate protocols, following the SK6805 (5 mA) / SK6812 (12 mA) precedent.

Datasheets disagree: the XL-3512RGBW sheet (C49237874) says “preset 5 mA / channel” in its feature list but prints ILED01 12 mA in the electrical table; it is filed here on the table value. The 3528, 3030, 3838, 4020 and 6028 sheets say 12 mA in both places.

Refresh & flicker

fPWM 1.5 kHz, fDATA 800 kHz, operating current 0.5 mA, propagation delay 0.21 us typ, VIH 0.5 VDD, VIL 0.23 VDD (3528 sheet C5440693).

Clones & compatibility

“Compatible” is never stated bare here — each relationship carries how strong the claim is, and what bites if you assume too much.

  • protocol compatible WS2812B

Only the sheet title (XL-3528RGBC-WS2812B, "WS2812B functional characteristics") claims it. The windows (0 code high up to 0.47 us, 1 code high from 0.58 us) bracket the WorldSemi WS2812B values (0.4 / 0.8 us), the symmetric typical column does not. source ↗

Library support

Not checked against any library. The sheets state a 24-bit (32-bit for IC-01W) frame sent high bit first at 800 kbps.

Dating evidence

Evidence, not a release date. A library commit proves the part existed by that date and says nothing about how long before.
