Datasheets disagree on the colour order inside the 32-bit LED frame. BB- HBGR32L-3-TRB-8 Ver2.0 (p4) draws ‘Sign / Global / Red / Blue / Green’ and ‘R7R6…R1R0 B7B6…B1B0 G7G6…G1G0’; BL-HBGR32L-3-TRB-8 Ver2.2 (p4) draws ‘BLUE / Green / Red’ and ‘B7…B0 G7…G0 R7…R0’, which is also the ‘BGR’ of the part number. They also disagree on VIH (3.0 V against 0.7 x VCC) and on the reliability failure criterion (Iv below S x 0.7 against S x 0.5). The BB sheet is the later revision (2021-04-07) but carries the lower version number (2.0) against BL 2.2 (2021-03-31).

Refresh & flicker

Constant-current 18 mA per channel (17-19 mA), 5-bit global brightness (32 steps of 1/31) and 8-bit grey scale per colour; self-detection signal and an option of positive or negative output (‘Choose positive output or negative output RGB tri-color LED output’). DIN high level: 3.0 V min on the BB- sheet, 0.7 x VCC on the BL- sheet.

Clock and data: no bit timing. Clock 0-5 MHz typical, 15 MHz maximum; clock high and low width >=30 ns, data set-up >=10 ns, data hold >=5 ns; PWM 20 kHz; static 0.5 mA; output 17 / 18 / 19 mA. Frame (p4): 32 zero bits start, per LED ‘111’ + 5-bit global brightness + three 8-bit values, 32 one bits end frame.

Clones & compatibility

“Compatible” is never stated bare here — each relationship carries how strong the claim is, and what bites if you assume too much.

  • protocol compatible APA102

The frame is APA102-shaped (32 zero bits, 111 + 5-bit brightness + three 8-bit values, 32 one bits) and the sheet shows the same SDI/CKI waveform. The two sheets disagree about the colour order, and neither names APA102, so only the frame structure is compared. source ↗

Dating evidence

Evidence, not a release date. A library commit proves the part existed by that date and says nothing about how long before.
