The odd one in the family: 48 bits per pixel, with a 12-bit PWM value and a separate 4-bit current gain for each of red, green and blue, red first. At 600 Hz PWM it is a part to check on camera before putting it in a product. Two VDD pads (1 and 6), VSS, DOUT and DIN; pin 4 is a “BI” input the sheet calls Bypass. The sheet does not say what BI does, so it is recorded as a backup input only by analogy with the WS2813 and should not be relied on.

Compatibility

  • electrically similar WS2816

Both are 6-pin single-wire parts with a second input and 12-16 bit channels, but the WS2816 frame is 16-bit per channel with its own backup semantics and this sheet specifies 12-bit PWM plus a 4-bit current gain. Not interchangeable on the wire. source ↗

Dating evidence

Nobody announces these parts, so this records what we can actually cite rather than a release date. Library support proves only that the part existed by that date.
