The clocked WL-ICLED. Mouser’s product page calls it “dual-wire” and claims up to 13x the single-wire data rate and FastLED compatibility; neither claim is in the datasheets, which only give the clock width minimum. Pinout differs from every APA102 package: 1 DIN, 2 CIN, 3 VSS, 4 VDD, 5 COUT, 6 DOUT on the 5050.
Refresh & flicker
PWM 20 kHz. Sleep mode (flag 0b101, current and PWM fields zero) draws 1 uA; wake-up takes about 1 ms after a new flag or a current selector other than 0xA0. The PLCC6 5050 and the 1.6 x 1.5 mm chip LED sheets give the same IC figures.

Clones & compatibility
“Compatible” is never stated bare here — each relationship carries how strong the claim is, and what bites if you assume too much.

protocol compatible
APA102
The frame layout reads like the APA102's: 32-bit zero start frame, 3 flag bits, 5-bit global brightness, blue-green-red 8-bit values, N/2 end bits. The differences on paper are the flag decoding (0b101 puts the LED to sleep) and the 300 ohm series resistors on both lines in the reference circuit. Nothing here has been run against an APA102 driver. source ↗

Dating evidence
Evidence, not a release date. A library commit proves the part existed by that date and says nothing about how long before.
